Indian clothing

If you’re in need of some new clothes, India is the place to go! From kurtas and lehenga-cholis to saris, this country has it all.

The Sari

The sari is the traditional wear for Indian women. It’s known for its versatility, as it can be worn in many different styles depending on the occasion and your mood.

In general, a sari consists of six yards (5.5 meters) of unstitched fabric that are wrapped around the body horizontally once or twice to create a long tube-like garment. The end pieces are then draped over one shoulder or both shoulders and pinned in place with ornate brooches called kamarbandh or patti at the center front of the waist. This type of garment is traditionally worn by Hindu women during festivals and religious occasions, but it has become common practice among all women in cities these days as well to wear them every day as casual clothing instead of jeans or salwar kameezes—a traditional outfit that combines pants with a fitted shirt (kurta).

Kurta, Salwar-Kameez, Lehenga-Choli and Ghagra-Choli

Kurta: Kurta is a long shirt that comes down to the knees. It is usually worn with a pair of salwar (baggy pants) that can be very comfortable and stylish.

Salwar-Kameez: Salwar-Kameez is a long shirt with loose pants, which are also called salwars. This casual outfit is perfect for everyday use as well as parties, weddings or special occasions!

Lehenga-Choli: The lehenga choli (knee length tunic) has been in vogue ever since it was introduced in India during the medieval period by various kings and queens who used them as formal wear during their ceremonies and festivals.

Ghagra Choli: Ghagra choli refers to an Indian traditional dress worn by women primarily during festivals such as Navratri or Holi where they dance through the streets while wearing these shimmering outfits

Dhoti and Lungi

Dhoti and lungi are traditional Indian clothing, worn by men and women alike. A dhoti is a long piece of cloth wrapped around the waist (usually with one end tucked in at the back). The lungi is also a long piece of cloth that wraps around your waist, but it’s generally wider than a dhoti. Both garments can be worn as skirts or pants if you know how to tie them correctly.

There are many uses for a gamcha. It can be used to cover the head and shoulders, or it can be used as a towel to keep cool. Gamchas are also used by Indians to keep warm on cool evenings, or even simply keeping dust out of the eyes.

The most common type of gamcha is white cotton fabric with red borders and designs running down both sides. The red border signifies auspiciousness and blessing from God, while the white color is for purity and cleanliness.
