The winner Glenn Weiss made his night memorable and noticeable at 70th Primetime Emmy Awards when he came of the stage to accept his award trophy for outstanding directing for a variety special for The Oscars.
During his awards acceptance speech, 57-year-old American producer and director of television and live events delivered an emotional and romantic twist. Audience was fully emotional at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles when he was talking about late mother who was passed two weeks ago.
Weiss suddenly turned his speech from emotional to romantic when he stunned everyone by proposing his girlfriend. “I don’t like to call you my girlfriend — because I want to call you my wife,” he said referring his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen.
“Part of my heart is broken, I don’t think it will ever be repaired, but she’s in me and she always will be,” he said. “Mom always believed in finding the sunshine in things, and she adored my girlfriend Jan.
“Jan, you are the sunshine in my life, and mom was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine,” he continued. “You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend — because I want to call you my wife.”
He gave ring to Jan, which Weiss’ father gave to his mother 67-years ago. “This is the ring that my dad put on my mom’s finger 67-years ago,” he said. “And to my sisters and brothers I didn’t swipe a dad knows I have it, okay.”
Jan Svendsen came on the stage to “YES” which surprised everyone including Leslie Jones who was sitting in the audience. She announced Glenn Weiss as “Man that was the best speech ever” in her Twitter post.
