2020 has been a year like no other and yet the sporting world has grown stronger and more resilient than ever before. We may not have had the usual events and tournaments to look forward to and plan our calendar around, but we’ve sure learned to appreciate how much each match, race, point, and goal means to us all. Here’s the best of sports in 2020 gave us with sbobet.
Hollie Doyle – Female Jockey of the Year
2020 has been an exciting year in the sport of horse racing, especially for jockey Hollie Doyle. Horse racing news has seen Doyle bag three awards for the best of Sports in 2020 – Lady Jockey of the Year, Flat Jockey Special Recognition and Flat Jockey of the Year – becoming the first female to ever be voted for such an award. The 24-year-old sport star is certainly a force to be reckoned with, with punters watching her every move when placing next year’s wagers.
Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder
Way back in February was the much-anticipated boxing re-match in Las Vegas between champions Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. Fury took the WBC heavyweight title off Wilder after seven gruelling rounds, when Wilder’s corner threw in the towel to declare Fury the winner. A particularly popular sport for those who love to place bets, all eyes will be on the Gypsy King next year when he’s in line to fight two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Ronnie O’Sullivan’s Sixth World Title
August saw professional snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan claim his sixth World Championship title after defeating Kyren Wilson at the Crucible Theatre. O’ Sullivan secured a 18-8 victory over Wilson, and in doing so set a new record of 37 career ranking titles and 20 titles in the Triple Crown Series. The player became the oldest winner, at 40 years of age, since Ray Reardon won in 1978, aged 45. Ronnie O’Sullivan is currently ranked second in the world, behind Judd Trump.
The Guinness Six Nations Title
The 2020 Guinness Six Nations Championship was unlike any other this year, with matches being postponed and rescheduled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Eventually, the games resumed in October resulting in England winning the title of the annual rugby union competition. Despite the team losing their first match, their 2020 win of the tournament has resulted in a record of 29 outright titles since the start of the Six Nations, with 39 overall when including shared titles.
BBC Sports Personality of the Year
For the second time, Lewis Hamilton was the very worthy winner of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year – the annual award presented to the sportsperson who achieved the most throughout the year, judged by the public. Having first won the title in 2014, Hamilton surpassed Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and jockey Hollie Doyle to the top spot. 2020 saw the racing driver take his 7th world title, equalling that of racing legend Michael Schumacher’s record, while extending his total wins to 95, and increasing his pole record to 98.
