There are many magazines and news channel which share their comment regarding this theme party. Even when this party got negative reviews, some loyal fans supported her. Today, I would like to share both positive and negative remarks on this theme party. Check this out.
According to CNN notes, people on social media are referring to this party as “‘tone-deaf’ and ‘embarrassing.’
On the other hand, A.V. club wrapped up this party theme in these words
“Nothing says ‘happy birthday’ like a recreation of a dystopian society in which women’s rights have been systemically and violently ripped away,”
Even Vanity Fair doesn’t seem happy with this kind of birthday bash; the team asked “Kylie Jenner: what in the world are you doing?”
Bradley Whitford is the star of Handmaid’s tale; he said “I don’t know … seems a little tacky. You know, that costume is so kind of iconic, and it’s interesting how it’s changed from initially a sort of symbol of oppression to now, as the show is moving ahead, to a symbol of resistance. So, yeah, a cocktail party seems to sort of dash all that significance.”
One critic wrote on social media, “Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale isn’t a joke. This is offensive when people are suffering every day without full access to reproductive care. Countless people are harmed by societal tendencies like those in Handmaid’s Tale. Jenner and friends are using insane privilege to dip their toes into the waters of oppression.”
There are many who think that Kylie didn’t understand the main idea of this story, the robe she wore in the party is a symbol of women who were the victim of sexual abuse and oppression.
Although many critics are saying that this party theme was outrageous and disturbing, there are some who stand by kylie. They said that if there is Games of Thrones Theme Party, then people might get excited. However, they also know that even in that show women were raped. But there are fantasizing about the show.
No doubt, the main idea behind the story of Handsmaid’s tale is depressing but it doesn’t mean that someone would wear a robe from that show and she got so many adverse remarks just because it is a birthday bash.
“Dressing up as characters from a show or movie is extremely common,” said one fan. “People have dressed up as murders and drug dealers, but that doesn’t mean they support it. Y’all quit being the f—ing fun police.”
