With the election nearing, and the next US President odds from Paddy Power giving you the chance to earn a little extra money alongside your vote, it’s all go in American politics! The race is on for Donald Trump and Joe Biden to battle it out for a place in the White House, and it’ll come as no surprise that Trump has been rather vocal throughout both his 2020 campaign and four-year Presidential tenure. Read on as we take you through some of Donald Trump’s most controversial statements to date!

Statement #1: “Climate change is a hoax”

If you follow Donald Trump’s campaign trails and speeches, then we’re sure you’ve heard him comment on global warming and climate change. The President has flip-flopped on the subject over the years; one minute he’s calling it an urgent problem, yet the next, he’s denying its existence altogether! During his 2016 campaign, Trump pledged to limit the regulations on fossil fuel exploration, attempt to dissolve the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), as well as relaunching the coal mining industry. From these proposals it’s clear to see that, at least at the time of speaking, Trump must have believed that climate change was a deniable occurrence.

However, in 2009, prior to his time in office, Trump and three of his sons signed a letter that called for urgent climate action. So, who knows, he may go back to taking global warming seriously again, or at least believing in it!

Statement #2: “Google is out to get me”

Donald Trump has claimed numerous times that Google, the world’s favourite search engine, has been doing all they can to undermine him. Back in 2018, Trump attacked the internet giants in a serious of rampant tweets, accusing them of prioritising “fake news” in the search results for his name. He insisted that the results must be “rigged” as all they show are negative stories about the President and his party, whilst trying to cover up any news that is good. He went on to comment:

“I think Google is really taking advantage of a lot of people. And I think that [it] is a very serious thing and it is a very serious charge.”

Now, whether you believe Trump’s concerns are correct or not, there is unfortunately no evidence to support the theory. Google have continued to deny any tampering with Trump’s search results, and the claim appears to have been left at that!

Statement #3: “The votes are being tampered with”

Trump routinely jumps to the conclusion that the election votes are fraudulent, in the favour of the Democratic Party, despite this theory being debunked on many occasions. There’s been a variety of reasoning behind Trump’s claims of voter fraud – he even cast doubt on the results of the 2016 election, perhaps due to worries that he wouldn’t win. The President claimed that:

“In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally”

Trump seems to believe that

“When people vote for Republicans the entire ticket switches over to Democrats”

Again, this theory has been routinely debunked and denied, however Trump doesn’t seem to want to let the idea go!

Statement #4: “Windmills are trying to kill us”

These controversial statements build on Trump’s views on climate change, as windmills are designed to help the environment by generating clean and low-cost fuel, with the aim of decreasing the chances of the upcoming plight. Whilst Trump denies the existence of global warming and climate change altogether, he’s also come out with some bold ideas about wind turbines. Back in late December, 2019, Trump claimed that:

“They say the noise [from wind turbines] causes cancer. You told me that one, OK,”

There’s been no clarification of who “they” might be, nor any scientific evidence to back up these controversial statements theory. However, Trump has been in no rush to take it back – so it’s safe to assume, he may still hold these bizarre views.

So, there you have it – the weird and, to some, wonderful mind of Donald Trump. Who knows what outlandish claim he’s going to come out with next!
