As avid moviegoers, we always look forward to the latest releases on the big screen. But in the last few years, experience has shown us that theaters are by far not the only medium we can get our hands on great movies. There’s one major streaming platform leading the way in pushing out feature films, even in theaters: Netflix.

From action-packed thrillers to thought-provoking dramas, Netflix is set to release a wide variety of movies that cater to all tastes. We’ve compiled a list of five Netflix movies that we can’t wait to see this year.

Extraction 2 (June)

Following the success of the first movie, Extraction 2 is set to be another action-packed adventure with Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as Tyler Rake. The movie is being produced by the Russo brothers, who are best known for directing Avengers: Endgame and is set to be directed by Sam Hargrave, who also directed the first movie. We can’t wait to see what kind of high-octane action and thrilling chase scenes this sequel will have in store for us.

They Cloned Tyrone (June)

Jamie Foxx has already starred in two Netflix originals, fighting vampires in Day Shift, and superheroes in Project Power, and now there’s a brand new foe he must overcome: clones. He won’t be alone, though – John Boyega and Teyonah Parris will be on his side. A series of strange events culminate in a mind-bending conspiracy in the movie written and directed by Juel Taylor.

Lift (August)

Planning and executing a heist is not an easy task under normal conditions. But imagine pulling one on a plane mid-flight! This is what a team of international criminals, led by a master thief, will attempt in the action comedy “Lift”, directed by F. Gary Gray.

The movie will have a star-studded cast, with Kevin Hart, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jean Reno, and Sam Worthington.

Damsel (October)

We’ve seen Millie Bobby Brown take on government goons, otherworldly monsters, and some Victorian-era criminal masterminds – but no dragons. Not so far, that is, because that’s what she’s going to do in her upcoming movie “Damsel”.

When she is asked to marry the handsome Prince Henry, Princess Elodie obeys. But she later finds out that it was all make-believe: instead of a wedding and a throne, there’s a fire-breathing dragon in her future – and being a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. She’ll have nothing but her wits and will to help her overcome this hurdle.

Rebel Moon (December)

Rumor has it, Rebel Moon was supposed to be a Star Wars movie but Disney didn’t accept Zack Snyder’s pitch. So, he’s releasing it as a standalone instead. But he is said to go the extra mile as well: he is said to be planning to turn the story into a video game, too.

We can only hope that it will be a slot machine: those inspired by movies are always among the most entertaining ones. Wild Casino has quite the collection of slot machines inspired by movies and TV shows, along with a variety of other themes, not to mention some great specials and bonuses. But back to the matter at hand: Rebel Moon. The movie’s premise sounds a bit similar to Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai” – a young woman is searching for warriors to drive out the warlords terrorizing their settlement. There’s little else we know about the movie (the teaser doesn’t reveal anything about it) but the names on the billboard – Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Charlie Hunnam – and the premise already sounds promising. Not to mention the director.

Final words

Netflix is set to release a variety of highly anticipated movies this year, ranging from action-packed thrillers to mind-bending conspiracies and even a fairy-tale adventure with a twist. With a star-studded cast and talented directors at the helm, these movies are sure to impress and entertain viewers around the world. As streaming continues to dominate the film industry, Netflix is leading the charge by offering unique and exciting content that can be enjoyed from the comfort of our own homes. It’s clear that there are many exciting movies to look forward to on Netflix this year, and we can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us in the future.
