Every traveler has a sort of travel bucket list they wish to complete. Often they feature well-known tourist destinations, as well as places you’ve never heard about. Then there’s the influence of magazines such as Condé Nast Traveler, which share their bucket list, which is largely based on travel data. While we encourage individuals to create their own unique travel bucket lists, taking a look at travel data, as well as what others are saying, is a good thing. You often get first-hand knowledge that could influence which destinations you want to visit. An example here can be based on food. Say a particular city has been boasting about its cuisine, and multiple travelers have shared that it is in fact the best they have ever had, now you can decide for yourself if you want to visit the city or not. Here are the places we think you should put on your own bucket list, unless they’re already on it, of course!

This Middle Eastern kingdom is one of the oldest countries in the world. The ancient city of Petra is packed with historical sites that have been preserved and protected for a long time. Travel experts say you need at least two days in the ancient city to ensure you soak up everything you need to. Here are some of the culturally rich experiences awaiting you:

  • Bab As-siq: The entryway to Siq. Here you will find tombs and monuments.
  • Siq: An iconic naturally made site if ever there was one. Passageways lined with mountains are just next level. This is also where you will get the best view of the Treasury.
  • The Treasury: This is the one attraction tourists keep flocking to, and we get it. The Treasury was carved out of the sandstone mountains as a tomb for the Nabataean King Aretas III. This iconic site will transport you back in time, making for a suitable place for countless Instagram shots. According to Lonely Planet, The Treasury gets its name from an Egyptian pharaoh who hid his treasure at that location.
  • Street of Facades: Imagine seeing real-life homes carved from the sandstone mountains, which is exactly what you’ll find in the Street of Facades.

Hiking through Petra: You can opt for a hike to take in the sites, sounds, and smells of nature. This is a wonderful way to take your time and soak it all in.
