BTS, the First K-Pop Act to Hit No. 1 on Billboard

The fizzy Korean youth-culture group, K-pop has become an unstoppable international brand. The group is again at the top of the charts. The popular 7-member boy band has the No. 1 album “Love Yourself: Tear” in the United States from May. The first album of K-pop is leading the Billboard 200 with another chart-leader “Love Yourself: Answer”.

The “Answer” is the 3rd part of a trilogy and it is a combination of a number of styles by having at least a dozen songs extracted from the previous 2 chapters. It also includes 10 additional tracks specific to this release. This release includes “Idol” and it is edge participation with Nicki Minaj. Point to be noted that more than 185,000 units of “Answer” have been sold out during its first week, including 39 million digital streams and at least 141,000 in traditional sales. The overall best sales include “Love Yourself: Tear” and it hits 135,000 units in its debut week.

The Billboard also reported that just Justin Timberlake and Ariana Grande had massive opening weeks as compared to “Love Yourself: Answer” of BTS among other albums during the current year. Last week, “Sweetener” of Grande topped the Billboard album chart but dropped to No. 4 during its 2nd week out with a decline of 67% in its sales. Last month, the “Astroworld” of Travis Scott made No. 1, and still at No. 2. After 9 weeks out, the “Scorpion” of Drake is at No. 3. Nicki Minaj’s “Queen” is at No. 5 during its 3rd week with adding more than 69 million streams and sales of at least 11,000.

Le'Veon Bell doesn't report to Steelers on Monday

A running back franchise player of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Le’Veon Bell is still absent, while the first regular season official practice day 2018 is near. He was franchise-tagged by the team during recent offseason due to they were unable to finalize a long-term contract agreement. The team was hopeful, but he hasn’t yet reported to the team unexpectedly. One teammate of Steelers informed Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network that there wasn’t any kind of sign from Bell on Monday at the facility of the team. The general manager of Steelers, Kevin Colbert issued a statement after finding the absence of Bell and expressed his displeasure that Bell is still unable to show up.

Colbert delivered his expression on the team’s official website and said that he is dissatisfied that Le’Veon Bell hasn’t yet signed his franchise agreement to rejoin his teammates of Steelers. The team coach Tomlin and the coaching staff will be focused on training the players for our regular season opener according to our schedule against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

It is important that the season opener of Pittsburgh is only 6-days away. The reporter of ESPN for Steelers, Jeremy Fowler pointed out that Bell could show up on Wednesday’s practice and he might be on the field for Sunday contest.

Bell has resisted for a new deal during each of the last 2-offseasons. He showed up just a week before the first game of the season and put together another remarkable campaign. He totaled 1,947 yards on a league-high 406 touches. The Steelers hasn’t yet indicated that they will fulfill his price requirement on a long-term contract. Labor Day weekend: what Winnipeg locals should keep in mind this weekend

We won’t be seeing another long weekend of the summer holidays after this weekend with an extra day off thanks to Labor Day. Here are things the citizens of Winnipeg should keep in mind over the long weekend.

1. From September 1st, speed limits are back

From Sunday, September 1, all vehicle drivers will need to adhere to a reduction in speeds between 7 AM and 5.30 PM. Despite it being the weekend, the speed reduction will be in effect on the Labor Day holiday which is Monday.
It’s advisable for drivers to be careful during school times due to children going back to school.

2. All provincial parks in Manitoba will have free entry

A day-long parking permit is $5 for one day and $12 if you are parking for three days. Over the long weekend, you can park for free on the long weekend between Friday and Monday. It may not be a bad idea to visit the parks for free over the weekend.

Downtown Sudbury Ribfest comes to town

Labor day weekend marks the arrival of RibFest in Downtown Sudbury. It is held between 11 am and 10 pm on Saturday. On Sunday, you can catch it between the hours of 11 am and 6 pm.

Six of the best rib teams in town will take on each other for some big awards. Best Chicken, Best Sauce and Best Ribs awards are all up for grabs. There’s also the People’s Choice Awards on Minto Street where the ribs contest is also happening. You can enjoy awesome live music from Friday to Sunday. Stalls for merchandise, craft and music will be set up. There will be a family area in the parking lot of the Sudbury area. Right opposite the street, you can even visit the Farmer’s Market.

The Park celebrates Labor Day

The all-Asian cast Hollywood hit Crazy Rich Asians has scored another strong weekend at the domestic box office. It’s a fun romantic comedy with some drama thrown in for good measure but never gets too serious to lose its wit and charm. The iconic Michelle Yeoh returns to screen in a strong supporting role and is quite comfortable with her fellow Asian cast members on screen.

Crazy Rich Asians is basically the story of a Chinese-American girl, Rachel Yu, goes to Chinese’s boyfriend Nick Young’s best friend’s wedding in Singapore unaware of the cultural expectations. She has no clue her boyfriend is a filthy rich and heir to an enormous fortune. Lot of interesting things happen and if you observe closely, you can see how connected people in China and Singapore are. There’s the jealous ex-girlfriend, the demanding mother of the boyfriend and the glitz and glamor of living the life of luxury. Traveling in first class is something you see in the first half hour of the movie so you know this Nick Young is no ordinary Asian.

It’s obvious with all the luxury, romance and drama you see on screen along with excellent acting, Crazy Rich Asians has delivered. With two strong box office weekends, this movie could be a strong contender for the most popular film at the Oscars- which is a new category from this year. After Marvel’s Black Panther made history with a majorly all- Black cast starring in a comic book movie blockbuster, Crazy Rich Asians could make history with an all-Asian/ Asian- American cast in a romantic comedy.

It shows Asian characters living luxurious lives that can only be compared to Hollywood’s elite. It showed an Asian-American visiting his Asian boyfriends’ rich family on the other side of the world and getting quite the culture shock. Could this mean more Asian cast movies will be seen in Hollywood from now on? We’ve seen Jackie Chan making Hong Kong’s action cinema popular in the West back in the day. Stars like Jet Li crossed over to Hollywood action movies in the last two decades. We’ve even seen classics like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon gain fame in Hollywood.

Crazy Rich Asians’ story is based from the Kevin Kwan novel of the same name. Apparently, it’s based on his family. It’s one movie that reminds one of Bollywood blockbusters which are known to be huge and grandiose in their direction with songs and dances. However, the songs and dances aren’t seen here but the similar type of “bigger is better” theme is showed.

Constance Wu and Henry Golding star in this exciting comedy drama movie and this could be the first of many such movies to take over Hollywood. Michelle Yeoh, a legend in her own right, also has a supporting role. Movies like these allow North American audiences to get a taste of Asian culture. We’ve seen cross-promotional movies featuring Indian, Pakistani and American actors recently which is a sign that Asia is determined to conquer Hollywood. Crazy Rich Americans is currently showing at a movie theater near you and should be quite a fun flick to catch over the weekend.

Koreas to meet for third summit: reports

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will welcome his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in September in Pyongyang, representatives of the two Koreas announced on Monday after a meeting in the demilitarized zone.

After two hours of discussions, the representatives did not give more details. The exact date of this new summit, which will be the opportunity to resolve the nuclear stand-off between Washington and Pyongyang, is still unknown.

Monday’s meeting in the north of the border village of Panmunjom is an initiative of the regime of Kim Jong-un, who denounced at the beginning of the month statements of the US Secretary of State.

Mike Pompeo called on the international community to maintain “diplomatic and economic pressure” on North Korea until the regime gives up its nuclear and ballistic weapons. The Secretary of State reacted to the publication of a UN report that revealed that Pyongyang continued its programs, including seeking to sell weapons in Africa and the Middle East.

In addition to these recent hiccups, Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un had already agreed to meet again in autumn, in Pyongyang, following the first inter-Korean summit last April.

Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon, head of the Southern delegation, said it was important for the two Koreas to keep “the same mindset” during the talks.

“We will make an overall assessment of progress in the implementation of the Panmunjom Declaration and discuss next steps,” he said, shortly before Monday’s meeting.

We have begun a period in which we walk hand in hand, rather than putting ourselves on the path of the other.

So far, South Korea has been a key player in warming diplomatic relations between the Kim Jong-un regime and the United States. The organization of the first inter-Korean Moon-Kim summit paved the way for the one between North Korea’s strongman and US President Donald Trump in June.

Nevertheless, little progress has been made on the fundamental issue of the North’s prohibited arsenal and the denuclearization of the peninsula, a key commitment of the Trump-Kim Summit.

“We will listen to what the North has to say, and we will explain our positions,” said Minister Cho shortly before the meeting.

On the side of the chief negotiator of North Korea, the tone was optimistic before the opening of the talks. “We are taking part in these discussions with the intention of achieving good results,” said Ri Son Gwon, comparing North-South relations to those of very good friends.
